Institute for Culturally Affirming Practices for Black Children
At Black Californians United for Early Care and Education (BlackECE), we are dedicated to transforming Early Childhood Education (ECE) by offering specialized workshops and training for educators that promote culturally affirming care for Black children. Our training sessions equip early childhood education professionals, including P-3 educators educators with tools to create enriching, supportive, and inclusive environments where Black children thrive, while also addressing the historical harms that have been created in education systems.
Affirming Black Culture: A Pathway to Wellness Introduces the importance of developmentally appropriate and culturally affirming education, helping educators understand the role of environment and experiences in shaping thriving children.
Blood Memory: A Discussion of Historical Trauma and Black People Explores how generational trauma impacts Black families and children, and how educators can create safe spaces for healing and learning.
Raising Anti-racist Children Through Love and Healing Offers practical approaches for nurturing anti-racist values in children and educators alike, promoting love and self-care in the process.
Black English is Real: Affirming Language in Black Culture Advocates for the recognition of AAVE as a legitimate and important cultural language, challenging the notion that it is “incorrect” English.
Cultural Affirmation: Putting it to Practice Provides hands-on strategies to incorporate Black culture (Black Family Culture Kits) into everyday classroom activities, celebrating Black history, traditions, and contributions.
