Food is an integral part of Black culture, it is an expression of community and essential for healthy physical, mental, and social-emotional development. This wellness kit is intended to affirm Black cultural food, celebrate the rich traditions centered from the love that comes from family memories that often no paper recipe can offer, fondly referred to as “soul food.” The kit will include, but not be limited to, the following:  Stock Pot, Cooking Utensils, Cultural Recipe and ways to engage children in food preparation, Ingredients for the recipe, Children’s Book on Black food culture and/or food traditions.

Inspiration for a New Year

Black hair is a celebration of the diversity and pride of Black culture. Affirming the unique hair textures and styles within Black culture is a source of pride, empowerment and resilience promoting overall healthy physical care and wellness.  The kit will include, but not be limited to, the following: Hair Products, Resources on hair care, styles and cultural and spiritual symbols of hair in Black culture, Children’s Book on Black hair.

This kit comes gender specific for a boy or girl.

Melanin Magic Glow-Up

Skin care/health within the Black community is often overlooked but ethnic skin is more sensitive and individuals with darker skin tones are at increased risk of skin conditions requiring unique care, prevention and treatment while building individual confidence and self-esteem.The kit will include, but not be limited to, the following: Skin care products, resources & tips for caring for darker skin tone children’s book on the varying tones and hues of Black people.

Juneteenth & Music...

An Expression of Freedom

Music and poetry is represented throughout Black culture. They represent the learning of language from stories of circumstance, resilience and triumph by the voices of Black people when access to education and books were denied. Music is a source of healing and uplifts our spirits and souls. June is important in Black history with the celebration of Juneteenth, AKA “Freedom Day”, and it is Black Music Appreciation Month. The kit will include, but not be limited to, the following: children musical instruments , children’s book on Juneteenth History and activities that celebrate the joy and pride of Black freedom and ancestry.
